Career Testimonials
Michelle Chapla, RDAS

"I had worked in many arenas of the mental health field before applying to FBR. I started working for FBR in 2004 as a Therapeutic Support Staff (TSS). FBR caught my attention due to the young, knowledgeable and supportive employees. The senior management team were very supportive of my determination to make the field of Autism my career. The staff, management and other professionals at FBR provided a collaborative and encouraging environment. FBR also provided a wide range of training opportunities. With the endorsement of FBR's management, my expertise as a TSS developed into a remarkable career. In my current position holding a dual role as the Regional Director of Autism Services and Clinical Supervisor for the FBR Beaver location, I am now able to provide the same collaborative management style and team appreciation to others that had made me want to join the FBR team. FBR has allowed me to develop professionally and has provided me with the opportunity to expand my knowledge in the field. My work at FBR has allowed me to take my passion for working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and turn it into a gratifying career."

Brenda Saulsbery, TSS

"I have worked for Family Behavioral Resources for a year and three months.  When I first applied to FBR, all the staff was eager to get me out in the field.  To this day, the staff has been absolutely wonderful; from being there when I had any questions, letting me vent to them when I just needed someone to talk to, and just overall helping me grow as a clinician. FBR offers great trainings which have helped me transfer that knowledge into the field with my clients.  I also love the outside support of other staff members that can offer feedback and advice when needed.  Overall, my experience at FBR has been a positive experience, which has led me to wanting to continue in the mental health field."

Catherine Hyland, TSS

A person by the name Leo F. Buscaqlia once wrote, “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around”.  This quote sums up how I feel working as a Therapeutic Staff Support at Family Behavioral Resources.  Choosing this job path allows kindness and compassion to radiate in my life, as well as, other people's lives.

My first day was September 4, 2009.  As soon as I walked into the Family Behavioral Resources at Robinson a sense of comfort feel over me.  Everyone I encountered in the office greeted me with a smile.   That week I was subjected to hours of training videos, face- to- face orientation and group trainings.  That one week I learned many things.  I learned about many disorders but, more importantly, I learned about what the families must overcome on a daily basis.  I learned about tedious paperwork that, overall, helps the staff provide the upmost care to the client based on their needs.  In group trainings, I was able to listen to those with a lot more experience share their stories.  I learned that the staff’s number one priority are the clients and to help assist the families with the clients.  Throughout these trainings, kindness and compassion was evident in the office.

The families I work with now are all different with different needs but, they all have one thing in common; They want help for their child.  Family Behavioral Resources is that help that the families need with an added bonus of kindness and compassion.  I feel that working for Family Behavioral Resources is not only serving the clients/families needs but serving me as well.  Through them I, Catherine Hyland, am learning about love all over again.

Elyssa Sternberg, TSS

I graduated college knowing what I wanted, but not knowing how to get there. Specifically, I’ve always had a passion to work in the mental health field, in which I could provide support and hope to those in need. However, I was also realistic, I had little experience working in the field and graduate school was not an option at the time. After weeks of searching I came across an advertisement for Family Behavioral Resources, though I was not familiar with the term wraparound services, I realized that their company mission resonated with my personal mission, to provide support and care to individuals and families.

Upon research I found that Family Behavioral Resources was one of Western Pennsylvania’s top Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services agencies. I’ve been a proud Therapeutic Support Staff (TSS) with F.B.R. for over two years. Within that time, not only has Family Behavioral Resources proven to me that it is one of the top BHRS agencies, it has also proven to be the top company to work with.  The ongoing support provided by my colleagues and supervisors, as well as, the continuous professional development I’ve gained as an employee with Family Behavioral Resources has undoubtedly shaped my professional and personal growth.

I can think of a myriad of reasons for why I am so passionate about this company but what I truly value about FBR is our exceptional quality of services, the mutual respect that every member of the FBR family has for each other and the continuing strive for the most accurate and up to date information within the mental health field, to ensure the best possible treatment for our clients.

While other companies struggle to stay afloat, our company continually flourishes and for that, I look forward to continuing my career with FBR as it is certain to me that Family Behavioral Resources will allow me to both reach and expand upon my professional goals.

Jenny Crowe, TSS

My name is Jenny Crowe and I am a proud member of the FBR Robinson Office.  I have been working with the company as a TSS since fall 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.

When I first entered into the position of being able to provide support to FBR clients, I brought along with me first-hand experience of what it felt like to be a mother of children diagnosed with autism and other mental health issues.  After years of receiving wraparound support for my own children, I was eager start helping my clients and their families.  FBR has provided me with the many rewarding opportunities to assist in meeting this personal goal.

The service in which FBR provides to their clients goes beyond written requirements.  Each client is viewed and treated as an individual not a diagnosis.  An endless amount of compassion, understanding and the dedication is an “unwritten goal” in every FBR client’s plan of treatment.

As a result of positive direction from administrative staff, opportunities for ongoing training and FBR’s belief that we are a “family” helping other families I’ve been able to grow both professionally and personally.

My family has a motto that we try to live by, “Commitment - no matter what.” I believe that FBR has a similar motto in that its team members are all working toward the same goal…providing children with autism deserving opportunities to have their voices heard and wishes granted.

Carly Stunson, TSS

"After two years of leave from FBR due to my husband's military commitment, FBR rehired and trained me in the most current techniques used by wraparound services.  I have found FBR to be professional with their employees, and caring with their clients. The needs of the clients have always been top priority."

Renee Sutton, BSC/MT

“No one stands so tall as when they stoop to help a child."

“I believe this quote from Abraham Lincoln sums up the message sent from the staff at Family Behavioral Resources.  We all work very hard to help the child become the best that they can be.

Upon moving to Pittsburgh, I heard that Family Behavioral Resources was a well respected company that many people enjoyed working for.  I began working with Family Behavioral Resources in August as a Therapeutic Staff Support.  I had the opportunity to work with several families with children diagnosed with disorders on the autism spectrum as well as behavioral disorders.  I have enjoyed working closely with the other staff and the families to help work towards interventions that would help to modify the children’s behavior.  Working one on one with children in their home or school environment has taught me a lot about just how different children with the same diagnoses can be.  Through this experience thus far, I have also learned the importance of working with the child’s strengths to help improve behavior. Recently I have had the opportunity to work with clients and families as the role of the Behavioral Specialist Consultant and Mobile Therapist as well.  Although these are very different roles than the Therapeutic Support Staff, I am very excited to take them on.

Although I am a fairly new employee at Family Behavioral Resources, I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience so far.  The staff at the Robinson office has been extremely helpful and supportive as I begin my own career in the human services field.  I look forward to the future experiences that I have with his company.”
