Kara came to FBR in 2003 as a Behavioral Specialist Consultant after spending five years as a special education teacher in the Connellsville School District. After working with a young child diagnosed on the spectrum, she developed a passion for the ASD population and switched her professional focus. In 2005, Kara stepped into the role of Autism Coordinator at FBR. Today, she has oversight of our offices located throughout Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, Somerset, and Westmoreland Counties, and other surrounding counties where families have requested our Specialized Autism Services. She participates in training and program development on the Autism Team, and is leading FBR’s efforts in providing services through the Adult Autism Waiver to persons with ASD over the age of 21. She has a strong background in providing treatment to persons with ASD, and enjoys not only modalities based in Applied Behavior Analysis, but also social skill development. Kara has been facilitating ABOARD support groups for families for several years, and co-founded the first ever FBR Sibling Support Group in New Kensington in 2004. She has presented to school districts and other organizations across the region, and co-facilitated two presentations at the 2009 California University of Pennsylvania P.E.P. Rally. She is currently enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh to complete her coursework for certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. In July 2009, Kara was honored as FBR’s Outstanding Achiever in Leadership for her contributions to the agency as well as the community. Kara resides with her family in Westmoreland County. WHY FBR? “Within my role, I have the opportunity to directly impact the lives of children across five counties. As part of the management team, I appreciate the passion that we share for the quality of services we provide. Each and every minute of every day, a child makes progress because of our commitment as an agency! Today, I am blessed to be an employee of FBR. Today and everyday, I love my job, and I am rewarded every single day.” |
