Shannon received her BS in psychology with an English minor from Allegheny College. She came to FBR in May 2005 as a TSS in the then Gibsonia office while completing her MS in Counseling Psychology with School Counseling certification in PA. She continued with FBR after graduating in May 2007 as a BSC/MT out of Gibsonia, and then Cranberry. Previously, she worked at Glade Run Lutheran Services in the RTF with girls 15-18 yrs old. While at Glade Run, she decided that she wanted to go into counseling due to the experiences that these girls had been through and the trauma that they continued to live with because of their environments. She feels it was “amazing to see the difference that just caring could make in their lives.” Shannon also worked in a daycare setting - Tender Care in Wexford - while doing TSS work and going to graduate school. She left once school counseling internships began at Oakland Catholic, Evans City Elementary, and Freedom Area Middle School. From being a TSS to becoming a BSC/MT, she ultimately decided that her population of choice is working with children with behavioral concerns and children on the spectrum. There is little more rewarding in the world then hearing a non-verbal child say their first word, or a child who could barely focus on his or her own, to reach the point of discharge from services and succeed in life. Also, she is pleased to see the change in the families who have gained newfound skills from confusion and frustration to confidence in their abilities to continue on. WHY FBR? “First and foremost, FBR truly exemplifies the standards and ethics that I hold dear as a professional. FBR truly cares about our families, their struggles, and ensuring that our staff has the training and experiences to be knowledgeable about the children that we work with and be able to transfer those skills and knowledge to our families. FBR has helped to shape me into the professional that I am today, and my clients’ families have also helped to make me the staff that I am today. I wouldn’t find myself anywhere else.” |
