Susan is the Director of the Family Based Mental Health Services program at Family Behavioral Resources. Susan has twenty-seven years of experience helping individuals and families define needs for mental health services, facilitating recovery and helping people to interface with the community. Susan has developed administrative and clinical skills in many settings. She was the executive director of a residential treatment facility for adults with severe and persistent mental illnesses for ten years and she has worked as an outpatient counselor in a university counseling center, community mental health centers, and addiction center. Susan has facilitated the opening and growth of psychiatric units for adolescent males and has worked in Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services. Susan earned a Bachelor of Social Work and Masters in Counseling Services from Slippery Rock University. She is credentialed as a National Certified Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania. Participating in seminars, trainings and working extensively with families and individuals, Susan has come to embrace the philosophy that “people support what they help to create.” Partnering/collaborating/negotiating with families, community services and agency personnel has become the focal point of Susan’s career. Throughout the years, Susan has recognized the need for middle managers or supervisors in the mental health industry to meet fiscal and business goals of the agency as well as meet clinical needs of the consumers that are served. This challenging philosophy has contributed to skills in balancing the needs of the consumer, agency, licensing and regulating bodies and insurance companies. Susan continues to attend trainings and develop her skills in helping families and individuals to develop the strong skills that they need to interact effectively with each other and in their communities. Susan and her family reside in Butler County. WHY FBR? “I like it here because there is a lot of collaboration between all of the treatment teams and administrative branches. This makes a good environment to help families, and offer employees the opportunity to grow as professionals. When you work here you feel supported and validated. That puts all of us in a good place to help families as effectively as we can.” “We are only limited by our own imaginations.”
