Child Abuse Prevention Committee (CAPC)

As a staff member, have you ever been in a situation wherein you needed to report suspected child abuse for one of your clients?

As a family member, have you ever been reported for suspected child abuse?

If the answer to either of these questions is yes, we understand that this was a challenging and painful experience for you. It is for this reason that FBR created the Child Abuse Prevention Committee (CAPC).

The Child Abuse Prevention Committee (CAPC) was developed in September 2008 in an effort to raise awareness of the critical issues of child abuse and effects on the child and family. Family Behavioral Resources strives to ensure that every child and family are afforded the opportunity to be successful with managing the very challenging issues that are inherent in parenting a child with exceptional needs. FBR takes pride in the training and support that is provided to every employee related to awareness and prevention of child abuse.

FBR has developed a multi-step procedure for managing reportable incidents of child abuse that includes the following:

~Consultation with a member of the CAPC team
~Adherence to the state law for reporting procedures
~Debriefing for staff and families

Members of CAPC are committed to ensuring that not only staff members, but also our families, are supported through these challenging times. CAPC designees are available to talk with both families and staff to discuss how the issue affected them and how to move forward after a childline occurs. Our staff have expressed gratitude for this above and beyond service that FBR provides. It presents an outlet for expressing concerns, thoughts, feelings and ideas.

We cannot move forward if we are ‘stuck’ with issues and feelings that are not expressed or heard. FBR’s Child Abuse Prevention Committee is here to listen to your concerns so that you can be successful as you support our exceptional children… regardless of your role on the treatment team.

~Our Mission Statement ~

The Child Abuse Prevention Committee exists in order to provide the FBR community with a cohesive group of professionals who have the knowledge, empathy, understanding and ability to manage a variety of issues related to the sensitive issues of child abuse. The committee will encompass professionals from a variety of counties and service lines in addition to diverse professional backgrounds. The committee exists to provide education, consultation, clinical direction and debriefings related to child abuse.
