Terrance R. Sheffey, BS, Community Outreach Coordinator

Terrance Sheffey, or “Terry,” attended The College of Eastern Utah on a football scholarship and then transferred to Iowa State University, earning a degree in Community and Regional Planning.  He has over 17 years of experience within the field of social services, serving as a youth game coordinator and an executive director of the Boys and Girls Club in Kenosha, WI. In addition, Terry was also an executive director for the Boys and Girls Club in Paducah, KY.

Terry moved back to Pittsburgh to be closer to his family. He joined the staff at Craig House as Behavioral Specialist and then a Crisis Intervention Specialist.  He was a clinical supervisor at the Parental Stress Center, and then the founder and executive director of BNT Children First, Inc. These agencies provided in-home services in both Allegheny and Westmoreland counties.  Terry collaborates extensively with local organizations such as Children, Youth and Families (CYF), as well as local case managers.

As the Community Outreach Coordinator for FBR, Terry assists the organization’s professional development through training staff in cultural competency, and facilitating outreach efforts that include focus groups and supports for the Penn Hills community per FBR’s project, “Community Outreach for African-Americans Impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorders.” It is his goal to ensure that no family, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity or socioeconomic status, is denied access to quality clinical care. He has expanded these efforts within the Autism Education and Research Institute to see that efforts in the African-American community spread across the nation.

Terry and his family reside in Allegheny County.

WHY FBR?
“As evidenced by my experience within the field of social services, I have had the opportunity to work with multiple agencies throughout the United States. However, the passion, dedication and vision demonstrated by employees at FBR is unparalleled. In gathering more information regarding FBR, I wanted to become a member of a team of individuals committed to bettering the lives of children and their families. As the Community Outreach Coordinator, I can directly assist in overcoming barriers to service provision for underserved populations."
